Craft Project: Another Vinyl Project

Yes, I'm a vinyl addict! I used to love painting and making craft projects, but after my injury I haven't been able to paint. Vinyl has replaced my desire to paint to some degree, there still is alot vinyl can't do that the paintbrush can.

My best friend and I became friends thru our kids. Both our eldest daughters ecame friends and both our only boys became best friends and my other daughter and her other two daughters became friends. With our kids hanging out with each other, we naturally became friends. We both moved from Oregon back in 2004, and for all of us it was hard but choices had to be made. I moved back with my family in 2011 and she moved back last year.  Sadly, she is moving away again, and I'm very sad. But we will stay in touch and have already made plans to visit each other.

I made her these altered, upcycled candle jars.

Craft Project: Best Friend Across the Miles Vinyl Mug

Another Project, my daughter & I worked on together for her Best Friend. I mostly did the work and she picked the designs and colors, which is important too!

We made matching Mugs, one for her Friend and One for her. Again, I used permanent vinyl from expressionsvinyl.com  I have used both brands of permanent and removable vinyl from their site, Oracle brand and their brand and find them to be equal in quality.

With this project Transfer Tape is A MUST!!

She wanted the Quote from the canvas project to go along the bottom. I had to shorten it because even at the shortened version it was hard to get it to fit. After doing these I think I may have done the quote positioning slightly different. Like part on top and part on bottom, so it wouldn't need to be cut so small. 

We added in their Names at the top of the insie of the mugs

and a small message at the bottom "Miss You"

Both cups have been used and run thru dishwashers several times and 

have held up to the use and washings!

Canvas Vinyl Quote Craft Project

My daughter chose the quote for her Best Friend.  She was putting together a Birthday gift Package to send to her. I have a couple other projects, we made that I'll be sharing. We use to live in So. Cal but moved back to Oregon in 2011.  She misses her friend alot but I have to say, I am surprised at how great they've stayed in touch and remained friends. I've lost touch with alot of friends over the years after moving and I'm an adult. I find today the youth of America friendships don't mean what they use to. My kids and some of my friends kids have roken friendships that never mend over the silliest things. 

Anyways, I used an 8x8 Canvas, bought it years ago at Goodwill for 50 cents! It was painted a weird "bronze" color.  My daughter painted it a metallic purple. She used Folk Art Metallic Purple paint. I created the quote in Make the Cut, I'm sorry, I don't remember what font I used. I will have the Quote available in my Etsy shop somewhat soon, I am working on several versions and in a few different fonts and mixed fonts too. I cut it from Oracle (651) Permanent Metallic Silver Vinyl, that I purchased at Expressionsvinyl.com  It being an intricut and small cut, it was a bit difficult getting all apart and put on the canvas. Even with the transfer tape, not sure if its because it was my first time using permanent metallic vinyl or because of the issues with my right arm and hand. I've used the same vinyl since and not had any issues even with small and intricut cuts. I did run my heat gun over the canvas for a bit and just "rubbed" in the vinyl to get in the "textured" surface. I then sprayed a clear Modge Podge over the Canvas to "seal" it.

Its pretty simple canvas project but the girl LOVED it!

Birthday DIY Calendar Sign/Wall Decor

This is my first one of these to make. I have several others in progress but not even close to being finished. This one is almost complete, but not quite. I'm undecided on what to do for the "names" & "dates" and how to "attach" them together under each month. I have several ideas I'm working on but as usual my pain gets in my way of my creativity. You can find many different designs on "Pintrest" which I have a love/hate relationship with. I love it cause it gets my creative juices flowing and I've learned many new things. I hate it because somehow I loose days at a time being on there, I start out on Mon. with my cup of coffee and next thing I know its Thurs and time for bed. Just kidding its not that bad but I do loose alot of hours "browsing" and "pinning." Anyways, Just do a search for "birthday signs" and you'll see where I got my inspiration from!

I had this wooden "plaque/sign", I purchased years ago at Craft Warehouse. I painted the "sign" a dark brown (its not as dark as it looks in the picture), the background paper is a lt. blue with white gloss flowers. For the "birthdays" word and mats, I used gold flower "embossed" paper, blue cardstock for the mat. I used white card stock and a sizzix flourish die to make the flourish die cuts. The "letters" are from Sizzix alphabet dies and I used "lagoon" (i think thats the name?) CTMH Cardstock for the shadow letters, and CTMH print (forget what collection the paper is from) for the top letters. I inked all the edges of all the papers because i'm an "inkaholic", if I don't ink the edges, i have this compulsion to do so and its bad. Its not that things don't look good if their not inked but if its mine and I don't i loose sleep over it no matter how great it turned out. Anyways, I then used CTMH Stamp set, Cherish the Day (S1111),  for the "months", i thought it worked perfect for this. Sadly, i havd this stamp set for years and this is only the 2nd time I've used it.

When I finally finish this sign I will post my final choice of how I decided on the "names" & "Dates" and how I decided to go about attaching them.

Altered Canvas

SORRY this didn't post yesterday! Not sure why, It was scheduled just never posted

You can do a variety of things with canvas. You can paint it, emboss it, add paper, add bling add pictures, etc.

I've done numerous canvas over the years. Here is one of my favorites! 

I inked the canvas with multiple colored inks. Stamped the with a flourish stamp, embossed the flourishes with embossing powder. Added the large Flowers. Punched Holes in the canvas to add the "jump rings" and added ribbon to give the "jump rings" a better appearance. The middle Canvas has a "vellum quote" added with a piece of ribbon too.

Pintresting Creation - Cell Phone Jail

I saw this cute creation on Pintrest and I thought I can do that! I actually did it too! Not just pinned it but made one (actually many) of my own! There where several different designs they used the clear paint cans (craft ones) and I'm assuming vinyl. I did mine just slightly different. What is a "Phone Jail" its a place to put a cell phone when a child is being punished from using their phone or as I thought also, their video games you can put their video game remote in "Jail". How many of us parent take away our kids phones or their video games as punishment? Its a cute item to actually put their phone or their video game remotes in not just on the counter.  Great idea for teachers too in their classrooms!

I save alot of containers (and many other items) that I know I can upcycle into something useful. My garage is overflowing with such items and my family calls me a hoarder, which to some extent I am but not to the point of unhealthy or even over taking the house, I have a small area designated for such items and that area is over flowing. This past year (a lil over) I haven't done any crafting at all, well maybe a teensy bit because of Life getting in the way. Anyways, my new year resolution was to get back to crafting as much as I could. My first crafting project of the year was making these "Phone Jails" and "Video Jails". I made them for a fundraiser for my daughter's mission trip she's going on during spring break. I'm going to list them in my Etsy Store but unsure of a price point. I know it will cost $5 to ship as when packaged each one weighs over 13oz so I have to go USPS Priority and can't do 1st Class and for just a few cents more than what it would cost for Parcel and you get it alot quicker, I think Priority is the way to go. I was thinking $5 for the container plus $5 shipping, so total cost is $10, your thoughts?

I took these round and square plastic containers, I've had saved (for too long) waiting to be upcycled into something creative. I took the vinyl scraps that I've saved knowing somewhere, someway I know I will need some scrap strips for a project and I was RIGHT!! :)  I cut these strips into thinner strips to use as the "bars" of the Jail Cell. I then used my Cameo Silhoutte to cut the vinyl Words.  These "Jails" were super easy and fun to make. Even with my arm issues I was able to make at least 2 a day, if my arm idn't cause so many issues I probably would have pit them all out in half a day but I have to accept my limitations and can't craft like I use to 6 yrs. ago.

Jolee's Series Part 1 ~ Day 3

Continuing on with the Jolee's Series. We are still on Part 1 Disney Princesses. Today, I am going to show you how I used the Jolees's Disney Princess Dimensional Stickers to alter a mini notebook. The same can be done on a larger scale note book too. This notebook has a closure flap and pen with a spot for the pen inside, you'll see in the pictures below. The book measures 5.5" x 4.75" (I think or about there). Its just plain craft cardstock for the cover and a small spiral notebook inside. I just altered the outside, not sure If I'm going to do for the inside. Once, I decide, I will be listing these in my yardsellr store

This is a fun thing to do for a candy dish. I plan to give some as gifts filled with my Famous Fudge.Some I do plan to add their names, or some cute saying cut out of vinyl but I don't have my machine set up to cut. I guess I need to pull that out and get it set up.

Basically, you take some basic or fancy candlesticks or small fancy vases and maybe even some small candy dishes. They can be wooden, plastic or even glass. Mine are all glass. You'll need some super glue. Any ribbons or yarn, tinsel, beads and any other type of embellishments you desire to decorate.

You take the candle sticks and stack them as they fit together. There is a bit of playing around with them. Once you find the right style and concoction you will super glue the pieces together. Be very careful as not to super glue anything you don't want stuck together forever like your fingers :O

 then add the candy dish up top

 Embellished with a simple ribbon bow
