10 Gifts in 10 Days ~ Day 6!

Upcycled Window Screen Picture Frames

I purchased a few of these "window screens" at the local Re-Store.
These "window screens" are not a typical "window", its specific for screens, which means no glass, thinner, which also mean s lighter too! I've had them for quite awhile and have been wanting to do stuff with them and finally got one done. Of course it was a super simple & easy project. I made it for my oldest daughter.

First I touched up any scuffs and scratches with white paint since she wanted to keep it white. I just needed to add some twine to hang the pictures. I tied knots on each end of the twine and then used Picture nails (which are teeny tiny) and nailed them thru the knots. To add some extra security I used some super strength glue after. We just took the pictures she wanted and some tiny wooden clothes pins and voila!

This next one was just as simple. First, I "matted" the pictures. Second, I measured and then cut some poster board, which is for the backing. Third, I adhered the "matted" pictures to the poster board. Fourth, cut out some cut file images that my daughter had chosen. and Voila a picture frame!

If you haven't been to your local re-Store and you love doing or want to do things from Pintrest. Well, this is a Pintrest DIY Recylce/Upcyle Dream store and I suggest leaving the debit/credit card at home on the first several trips. Oh, when your spouse finds out about how much time, money and dreaming you've been doing there, you didn't hear about it from me :)

10 Handmade Gifts in 10 Days ~ Day 1!

Upcycled Cabinet Door ~ Verse of the Week

I purchased some "used" cabinet doors from Craigslist. I have quite a few, they had an an assortment of "designs" and sizes. I've been slowly painting them into "chalkboards.  My daughter fell in love with this one on Pintrest and ,I myself had seen it, pinned it and thought of her and then made it.

See Pin HERE

This would make a great "Gift" for any Occassion!

To turn the cabinet door into a chalkboard was pretty simple.

1. Clean with clorox wipe and then wet rag and dried.
2. Sanded the areas I wanted to paint (depends on wether you want to paint the whole cabinet or just the area where you want to turn into a chalkboard.
3. Applied a base coat of plain white base paint to the entire cabinet door.
4. Applied First Coat of Chalk Board Paint. (there are many different brands out there).
5. Applied Second Coat of Chalk Board Paint.
6. Applied Third (final) coat of ChalkBoard Paint.
7. Painted the "outer" parts of the Cabinet door with white paint, took 2 coats).
8. Painted the outer edge of the door and the "decorative frame" part a light blue/aqua.
9. Played in MTC (Make The Cut) Program and experimented with different fonts to get a similar look to what the gal has on hers that she hand painted. (Sorry, I don't recall the fonts I used and No, i didn't write them down anywhere).Found a Label in my own  MTC Files, (see below for Freebie) and designed the "label" on my cabinet door" and then cut it out from white vinyl.
10. Applied the Vinyl to the Cabinet Door.
11. Prepared the chalkboard for writing by taking chalk and rubbing it over the entire chalkboard area twice, cleaning in between.

For the "label" I used, without the words, just the blank "label"

Pintresting Creation - Cell Phone Jail

I saw this cute creation on Pintrest and I thought I can do that! I actually did it too! Not just pinned it but made one (actually many) of my own! There where several different designs they used the clear paint cans (craft ones) and I'm assuming vinyl. I did mine just slightly different. What is a "Phone Jail" its a place to put a cell phone when a child is being punished from using their phone or as I thought also, their video games you can put their video game remote in "Jail". How many of us parent take away our kids phones or their video games as punishment? Its a cute item to actually put their phone or their video game remotes in not just on the counter.  Great idea for teachers too in their classrooms!

I save alot of containers (and many other items) that I know I can upcycle into something useful. My garage is overflowing with such items and my family calls me a hoarder, which to some extent I am but not to the point of unhealthy or even over taking the house, I have a small area designated for such items and that area is over flowing. This past year (a lil over) I haven't done any crafting at all, well maybe a teensy bit because of Life getting in the way. Anyways, my new year resolution was to get back to crafting as much as I could. My first crafting project of the year was making these "Phone Jails" and "Video Jails". I made them for a fundraiser for my daughter's mission trip she's going on during spring break. I'm going to list them in my Etsy Store but unsure of a price point. I know it will cost $5 to ship as when packaged each one weighs over 13oz so I have to go USPS Priority and can't do 1st Class and for just a few cents more than what it would cost for Parcel and you get it alot quicker, I think Priority is the way to go. I was thinking $5 for the container plus $5 shipping, so total cost is $10, your thoughts?

I took these round and square plastic containers, I've had saved (for too long) waiting to be upcycled into something creative. I took the vinyl scraps that I've saved knowing somewhere, someway I know I will need some scrap strips for a project and I was RIGHT!! :)  I cut these strips into thinner strips to use as the "bars" of the Jail Cell. I then used my Cameo Silhoutte to cut the vinyl Words.  These "Jails" were super easy and fun to make. Even with my arm issues I was able to make at least 2 a day, if my arm idn't cause so many issues I probably would have pit them all out in half a day but I have to accept my limitations and can't craft like I use to 6 yrs. ago.

30 Days of Handmade Gift Giving Blog Hop ~ Day 8

It is Day 8 of 30 Days of Handmade Gift Giving Blog Hop!

I sure hope you enjoyed yesterdays Gift Idea!

Today is a New Place to visit for Inspiration!

Today You are going to visit ME Again!

Yes, you'll be visiting me quite a few times this month. I filled the days that didn't get filled because I was horrible with organizing this hop, but the ladies that jumped in to fill the spots are so talented and I feel so honored for them to be part of this fun hop. I know last year we had fun and got lots of comments of how everyone enjoyed it. I hope to make it a tradition here every year.  To me something handmade is a treasure, special and made with love.

Today I'm sharing one of my favorite things that i make every year. I just started a few years ago recycling into my crafts. Growing up poor and not having many things, you learn to make use of things over and over. I've always hated throwing things away (You won't ever see me on the show "Hoarders", my husband does keep me under control.) For many years, its become a tradition for me to make my famous fudge. I use to buy containers and tins to give them away in. So, now, I save our glass and plastic jars and containers that I can clean out and run thru the dishwasher. Then, when its time, I alter them to fit the "theme". I start with paper, then embellishment, then choose the color of spray paint and paint the cover. I find the Krylon brand works the best. I have tried some other brands but they tend to flake off. To save on the expensive brand name I buy it at JoAnns with a coupon. I buy the specific ones for plastic or metal. I don't know what they put in it to make it work but it works!

Here are some pics of the Recycled Glass Altered Jars soon to be filled with my Famous Fudge!

Altered Recycled Relish Glass Jar

Some people that have received my jars have continued to keep them and fill them with other "chocolates throughout the year.  To clean simply use a wet paper towel with slight bit of dish soap and then rinse with another wet paper towel. Unfortunately with paper its not dishwasher safe and you do have to be careful of how you wash it. But everyone so far has loved the jar, mostly the fudge but no complaints yet, at least that I know of!

What do you think? Something you might do?

Holiday Cards and Gifts Blog Hop!

Welcome to The Scrapoholic,
I apologize for blogger not posting when I had this scheduled to post at 4 am this morning!
you should have just come from Jessica at Overjoyed Scrapper
If not please go to the beginning of the hop which starts at
Jamie at Glitter, Stamps, and Paper, Oh My

Otherwise if your following the hop in order, stay here and enjoy my 2 (two) projects for you today! I couldn't decide on which to do and really love how both turned out. They make great gifts too!

The First one is an altered papermache book I got a Joann's, I think for $3.99. It opens up to be able to store things in. I got the inspiration from someone's blog they did theirs quite different and for decoration. While mine has a multi-purpose use. It can be displayed as a decoration and at the same time be a keepsake for Letters to Santa over the years that your kids write and/or Santa writes back.  I sell these for $10 + shipping. If you'd like a custom made one let me know I can do them in different colors and things too. Just email me at TheScrapoholic@gmail.com.  So I basically painted the book brown with gold acrylic paint as seen here:

I added a printed sticker to the book.

The opened view of the book

Then I started with all these supplies:

I then inked all paper edges in Pear CTMH Ink. I adhered the CTMH Mistletoe papers down with my ATG gun and glue dots. The Stamp of Santa is a CTMH clear acrylic stamp set retails for $13.95 which can be purchased HERE and if you add just $7.05 more in CTMH products you will recieve a free D size stamp (retails for $22.95) what a great deal huh!? I think so! I added green gross grain ribbon and prima poinsettias. I hand wrote "Letters to Santa" with my CTMH Holiday Red and Chocolate color markers.
This is the finished front Cover:

This is the inside of the box decorated with just some CTMH Mistletoe Papers:

The 2nd Project I did was an Altered Clipboard! its a 12 x12 CTMH White ccliboard (now retired) wish i had more this sure was a fun project and i want to do more.
I started with all these supplies:

I then adhered down all the papers which are the new CTMH Wings B&T Paper (available next year in Jan) I simply cut and used both sides. I used CTMH Cardstock to cut out Goofy from the cricut using Disney Mickey and Friends cardtridge. I used a 6x6 peice of "Cork board" which was adhered using U-Glue Dashes. I also used CTMH chipboard bookplates, circle and squares covered them with paper and adhered them to the clip board with the U-Glue dashes along with the metal "clips" that are attached to the chipboard using a brad and U-Glue dashes. I also covered a pen with paper and simply adhered the paper with my ATG gun adhesive and wrapped it around the pen tightly by rolling the pen. I used assorted ribbons to embellish.

The best part of the whole board is the "Dry Erase Board" which I made using a "photo mat" like and cut a peice of plastic from a clear box to fit and adhered it using photo anchors.  Yes, you can write on the recycled clear plastic with Dry Erase markers just like on a Dry erase board! How cool is that right!!! Wipes right off using a cloth or tissue that easily!

Leave me some Love and a way to contact you and you can win a package of
CTMH adhesive Gems (pearls).

Recycled Notebooks

I made a few lil notebooks, drawing pads and note pads from recycled chipboard and cardboard.

Took the "Cheeze It" box and made 3 books from it.

The bigger one i used construction paper inside for a doodle pad and punched holes and added jump rings for binding.  I covered the inside with scrapbook paper that matched.

Made a Long Note Pad  and did the same thing except used some color printer paper instead of construction paper.

Made a tiny note pad with left over yellow printer paper and added the jump ring.

More Recyling Ideas

You know all those cans and jars we toss in the recycle bin? Send them through the dishwasher (after you've removed any paper labels) Get them good and clean! Now you can use them for storage for all sorts of stuff! You can alter them for gifts! I have been working on a few as a new idea I got the other day! I'll be adding a New album under Photos as "recycled". now you may have already seen a few of the things I've already made.
There are so many things we can recycle and save our Money for something else!  Something I've seen they actually sell in stores like the Plastic Mayonnaise jars. They want $9.99 for 3 and they are not as sturdy as the ones I've recycled!
My recycled Gum containers from its original to storing "skittles" and Buttons! they are the perfect sized and there are two openings!

My recycled Christmas Tins. I have my "larger" Flowers in these.
My Recylced Glass jars. From Salsa, Relish to Spagetti sauce jars. Turned into great "candy" jars. Or storage Jars for flowers (or whatever you need to store)

Little Plastic Water Bottles are great for storing "skittles" too or making into cute little gift packs!

Recycled Mayonnaise Jars. All sort of uses! Storing Ribbon, making into an adorable decorative jar!
